    Meet Sandy

    I'm Sandy, the artist behind every Framed Friend portrait. My heart dog Beau is the reason this studio exists. He turned twelve and I realized I had a thousand photos of him, and not one that showed his whole life. So I made one. Friends asked for their own, their friends asked next, and four thousand portraits later, here we are.

    I trained in classical portraiture and spent years painting people. Then I understood that dogs are the better subject. They hold still in your heart, if not in real life, and they never complain about their nose.

    I live in Vermont with my husband Tom, our boys Beau and Tuck, and more picture frames than any house needs. I would be honored to make one for your best friend.

    Questions dog parents ask us

    What kind of photos do I need?
    Just two, one from puppyhood and one recent. Phone photos are perfect; they don't need to be studio-quality. If a picture is a little blurry, dark, or faded, our studio cleans it up as part of the work. Not sure which to pick? Send a few and we'll help you choose. Right after you order, we'll show you exactly where to send both photos, it takes about a minute.
    What if it doesn't look like my dog?
    You'll never be surprised. We send a digital proof within 48 hours and nothing prints until you approve it. Want the chin a little greyer or the eyes warmer? Revisions are free and unlimited. And if the finished piece still doesn't feel like them, we keep working on it free until it does.
    How long until it arrives?
    Your digital proof is ready in 48 hours. Once you approve it, canvas and framed prints ship within 2–3 business days and typically arrive in about a week. The digital file is delivered the moment you approve, handy if you need it in a hurry.
    Can you do two pets, or a pet who has passed?
    Yes to both. Add a second pet for $25 and we'll bring two companions into one portrait. Many of our portraits are memorials, placing the puppy someone raised beside the old friend they said goodbye to. We take that work to heart and treat every one with care.
    Is each portrait made just for my dog?
    Every portrait is created from scratch in our studio for your dog specifically, never a template or a one-click filter. That's how we keep the exact markings, the grey around the muzzle, and the look in their eyes true to them, so the proof comes back looking like a photo you forgot you took.
    What if I'm giving it as a gift?
    You're in good company, most of our portraits are gifts. Order the digital format for a last-minute surprise you can print or frame yourself, or have the canvas shipped straight to them. Tell us the occasion at checkout and we'll make sure it arrives in time.
